Audi has been actively involved in skiing for decades. The 2018/2019 season marks the brand's 17th year as title sponsor of the Audi FIS Alpine Ski World Cup The Ingolstadt-based luxury car manufacturer is also the main sponsor of the 45thFIS Alpine World Ski Championships. Previously held in Åre in 1954 and 2007, this year marks the third time the highlight of the season, the Ski World Cup, will take place in the Swedish resort with top skiers set to ‘inspire the world to ski’.

All eyes will be on the new Audi-e-tron at ski competitions this season. Following the World Cup kick-off in Sölden, the Four Hills Tournament and the legendary Hahnenkamm Race in Kitzbühel, the vehicle will be a feature at all competitions.

But Audi's presence in Sweden is about more than mere brand visibility – the manufacturer is making a fleet of 20 Audi e-tron vehicles available at a world championship event while also supplying 33 Audi e-tron vehicles to the organising committee. Audi's e-tron Power Storage charging station, which was specially developed for the World Ski Championships in Åre, uses a 250kW grid connection and supplies the charging infrastructure with a maximum power of 500kW. In the Audi charging park, 6x 50kW and a maximum of 20x 11kW are charged. The missing energy is provided by a 720kWh battery storage consisting of original e-tron vehicle batteries. Spectators and skiers can also get a feel for the new Audi e-tron as part of a driving experience on the spectacular terrain bordering the nearby Åresjön lake – making the most of the time between competitions.

In Åre, skiers will take part in alpine ski disciplines including downhill ski, super-G, slalom, giant slalom and super combination as well as a team contest to compete for the world championship titles. Not only can stars like the Austrian Marcel Hirscher or the US skier Mikaela Shiffrin enjoy comfortable on-site transport courtesy of the e-tron shuttle fleet, they can also relax in the Audi Lounge after each of their final races. The winners will be honoured once again at a champions’ reception held at the Bombom restaurant and hosted by Marco Büchel. 

For over 30 years, Audi has been the main sponsor of the German Ski Association (DSV), supporting all of the national teams. The premium brand also sponsors many other slpine national teams and acts as a partner at selected winter sports events. Some teams train regularly in the Audi Wind Tunnel Centre in Ingolstadt and take part in an Audi driving experience in the snow or in the Audi Driving Experience Center in the town of Neuburg, situated along the Danube.

Although the second half of the Bundesliga season has already started, the German record-breaking footballers took time out of their schedule to meet the luxury car manufacturer for an event dubbed ‘FC Bayern meets Audi e-tron’. Audi's first fully electric series model will be launched on the European market over the coming weeks with the FC Bayern stars among the first to get to test drive the car in advance.

‘Audi has had a close partnership with FC Bayern since 2002. Both Audi and FC Bayern stand for innovation, technology and sustainable development – as does the Audi e-tron’, says Thomas Glas, Head of Sports Marketing at AUDI AG. ‘This one-off event at Munich Airport was the perfect opportunity to introduce the e-tron and the innovative technologies behind it to the team before it becomes a permanent part of our customers’ daily lives.’

The luxury car manufacturer used the multi-storey Audi e-tron Meteorit located at Munich Airport in the grounds between Terminals 1 and 2 for the event. As part of the set-up, the team took part in various e-tron-themed activitiesfollowing a group picture. The players showed off their skills by taking part in an e-scooter obstacle course and a remote-controlled e-tron model car competition. They also undertook driver training in e-tron vehicles at the dynamic Audi Training Center at Munich Airport.

The Audi e-tron Meteorit will remain open to visitors until mid-March and car enthusiasts can test drive the Audi e-tronon-site without making an appointment in advance. A free one-hour test drive may be reserved in advance through Audi’s partners.

In the midst of the urban glamour of the 69th Berlin International Film Festival at Potsdamer Platz, the Audi e-tron will be the first all-electric production model of the brand with the Four Rings to demonstrate what locally emission-free mobility looks like. At the grand opening gala, the gala premieres and the awards ceremony, the film celebrities will drive to the red carpet in the electric SUV. Festival Director Dieter Kosslick is already driving to and from his numerous appointments in the current Berlinale season with the Audi e-tron and testing its suitability for everyday use in the capital city. “It’s an exciting experience to be on the road with the Audi e-tron. The car sets the course into a new era of mobility.” 

The Berlin International Film Festival brings together courageous and unconventional filmmakers. They are shaping the changes of our time and breaking new ground with a self-confident spirit of discovery. “Audi has a close connection with this film scene and is therefore once again promoting dialogue with change makers and creative visionaries by hosting the Berlinale Open House program in the Audi Berlinale Lounge,” says Jason Lusty, Head of Marketing Germany at AUDI AG.

The Audi Berlinale Lounge offers a special platform for exchanging ideas and networking. It is a temporary pavilion directly at the red carpet in front of the Berlinale Palast and is open to all festival visitors. Within the framework of the Berlin Open House, Audi and the Berlinale will present discussions with top-level participants, interviews and special events on a daily basis during the festival (February 7 to 16). 

In the new Electric Minds pre-evening format with moderator Jörg Thadeusz, creative minds from film, culture and society will transfer topics from electric mobility such as voltage, silence and range to other areas of life. At the podcast masterclass, visitors will learn how podcasts can be used effectively from expert Vincent Kittmann, head of the Podstars OMR marketing network. In the evenings, the “Berlinale Lounge Nights” will be held with exclusive concerts and DJ sets. The opening gala and award ceremony of the Berlinale will also be shown there live. 

The Ingolstadt-based company has also been supporting talented directors of short films since 2015 with the Audi Short Film Award. The €20,000 prize for experimental cinema art will be presented at the official award ceremony of the 69th Berlinale on February 16. “Short-film makers always take a special pleasure in experimenting and have the courage to implement new forms of expression. This spirit of discovery is reflected in our own corporate philosophy, so the promotion of such talented people is important to us,” says Lusty. One of them is Réka Bucsi, Hungarian filmmaker and winner of the Audi Short Film Award 2018. At the Berlinale Open House Program on February 10, she will talk to Jeffrey Bowers, head curator of the streaming platform Vimeo and member of the International Short Film Jury 2019, about her journey and the response in various countries to her winning film, Solar Walk. 

Audi once again designed the festival bag for this year’s Berlinale and produced 27,000 of them. “For all film lovers, the bag has established itself as a cult accessory in Berlin and symbolizes that film and Berlin belong together also beyond the festival period,” says Kosslick. 

In 2020, Audi will once again be a principal sponsor of the Berlinale for the 70th anniversary of the festival. The automobile manufacturer and the Berlinale have extended their cooperation by another year.

The new TTS uses sporty design details to highlight its status as the top model of the TT family from Audi. Elements in a matt aluminum silver look shine in the Singleframe grille with a TTS badge and the matt titanium black insert. The new horizontal blade in the bumper is also striking. It turns up at the ends, forming narrow, upright funnels at the same height as the side air inlets. The full-length front splitter, the vertical air inlets and the trim strips also feature an aluminum look. Powerfully contoured sills also underscore the sporty character viewed from the sides. The hinted vertical air outlets below the rear lights and the broadened diffuser with the four tailpipes of the exhaust system are particular highlights at the rear.

Powerful combination: Seven-speed S tronic, 2.0 TFSI and quattro drive
Sporty acceleration values are possible with the seven-speed dual-clutch transmission thanks to the close ratios of the lower gears. The wide ratio of the highest gear reduces engine speed and with it fuel consumption.

The 2.0 TFSI outputs 225 kW (306 metric horsepower) and has a maximum torque of 400 Nm (295.0 lb-ft) in the speed range between 2,000 and 5,300 rpm. That is 20 Nm (14.8 lb-ft) more than with the predecessor engine. The TTS Coupé accelerates to 100 km/h (62.1 mph) in 4.5 seconds (Roadster: 4.8 seconds)—a tenth faster than previously. The top speed is restricted electronically to 250 km/h (155.3 mph). A gasoline particulate filter is standard.

The new Audi TTS comes with quattro permanent all-wheel drive and the Audi magnetic ride controlled shock absorber system as standard features. Other suspension modules include progressive steering, four-link rear suspension and Electronic Stabilization Control (ESC).

Sporty highlight: “TTS competition” special model
The TTS competition special model adds a sporty touch—with LED headlights, Audi rings laminated on the side sills, privacy glazing (Coupé only), a fixed rear wing, brake calipers painted red, 20-inch wheels in high-gloss black and other exterior details in gloss black. Glacier white, tango red and mythos black are available for the exterior paint finish.

The two options for leather upholstery and trim give the interior genuine exclusiveness. Express red with contrasting stitching in granite gray or ebony with contrasting stitching in express red. To go with this, the elements of the seat trims and center console come in slate gray chrome paint finish or tango red gloss paint finish (Coupé only). The inside rings of the air vents are painted red, the gear lever knob and steering wheel rim with red 12-o’clock marking from Audi exclusive come in Alcantara. In addition, inlays in carbon come as a standard feature.

Equipment and prices
Audi equips the new TTS with 18-inch wheels. Wheels of sizes 18 and 19 inches as well as exclusive 20-inch wheels from Audi Sport are optionally available. The range of paint finishes contains two new colors: pulse orange and turbo blue. Even in the driver-oriented interior, special details underscore the sportiness of the new TTS: the additional sport screen in the Audi virtual cockpit, the S sport seats and the colored contrasting stitching.

The new Audi TTS will be available from dealerships in Germany and other European countries from the beginning of 2019. The prices for the TTS Coupé start at EUR 54,400, while the TTS Roadster is available from EUR 57,200.
